HELLO,
MY NAME IS LAURA AND ESPASA STUDIO IS MY HAPPY PLACE.
I am the founder of Espasa Studio.
I think one of my first memories I ever had was me painting and drawing on my parent’s house floor having the best time. My parents observed that moment and said: “yes, this girl will be an artist”.
So fast forward, I went and studied Fine Arts in University in Barcelona, where I am from, and despite loving art, I didn’t have the best experience: I faced a big lack of empathy and support, making me fell out of love of art.
Thankfully, I kept painting and drawing because it was something I was drawn to.
I then studied Photography and Fashion and became a fashion photographer and I am currently working as such in the UK.
Last year, when pandemic hit us all, I asked myself: what is that I really want to do with my life, if I am gone tomorrow, if I can choose, what would I do with my time? And my answer was painting, drawing, creating… I want to do art. I was born to do art!
I see art as a social expression: it is a representation of our society, of a social movements, it is a way to express your emotions and your feelings.
And I truly believe that art should be available to everyone because is a source of inspiration that can make us feel so much, and it is a great activity to heal your mind and soul.
After my bad experience in university, I thought: I would love to change that, I would like that people can enjoy art much more, not being an elitist world. No matter where you are from, how talented you are… I wanted to offer the possibility to enjoy art to everyone.
So that is why and how Espasa Studio was born. And the rest will be a history you can be part of :)
